The pacing is great, I love how sections of danger are interspersed with quiet, kind moments in the farm house. That being said, there are some truly heartfelt moments of connection in there between Angie and George, which are beautifully written. The dialogue can also feel forced and caricatural at times, especially when characters become verbally aggressive (the vicar’s dialogue for example sounds really grotesque). I know it’s a vehicle for horror, but it does feel gratuitous especially because it’s appeared in multiple games. For example, there have been recurring themes in Harvester’s games of its most graphic violence being targeted at female characters, and also both repeated verbal and physical violence geared specifically towards overweight characters. The writing does feel heavy-handed at times, and could have been more thoughtful towards certain types of characters it chose to feature. Though some of the gameplay mechanics feel like they could of been used more, the story and feel is divine. A game of both real life horror and supernatural.Īs with every one of their games this one deals with some pretty heavy themes, mainly Death and Illness.
